ABOUT US
Who We Are
Grace Orchard School serves students aged 7 to 18 who have been diagnosed with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID), some of whom also have Mild Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
An initiative of True Grace Presbyterian Church and Providence Presbyterian Church, GOS operates under the umbrella of Presbyterian Community Social Services, providing a vibrant learning environment where every learner is empowered.
What is Mild intellectual Disability?
Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) is a term used to describe persons who may experience challenges with cognitive and adaptive functioning, such as conceptual, communication and social skills.
Through the lens of the Socio-Ecological Model of Disability, we believe that disability is not simply a reflection of a person’s limitations, but often a mismatch between their abilities and the expectations or demands of their environment.
Every child with MID has unique strengths and the capacity to grow in character and competence. With the right support, opportunities, and a learning environment that embraces variability as the norm, we believe our students can thrive and lead lives of purpose, belonging and significance.
