School Relocation

Dear Parents / Guardians,

1. We are pleased to share that we will be working with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to expand and refurbish the current campus of Grace Orchard School (GOS) at 6A, Jurong West Street 52. This will cater to the increase in demand for school places and provide new and improved facilities for our students to engage in learning of academic subjects, vocational training and independent living.

2. To facilitate the expansion plan, GOS will be relocating to a holding site at 170 West Coast Road for an estimated period of 4 years, starting from Semester 2, 2021. We will provide you with further details on the scheduled date and relocation plans in Semester 1, 2021. We will be refurbishing the facilities at the holding site so that your child/ward can continue enjoying a rich and meaningful educational experience, similar to what he/she is experiencing now. Please see the address and map of the holding site in Annex A.

3. To familiarise our students with the new campus and facilities, we will be conducting an orientation for current students and parents at the holding site closer to mid-2021. We will ensure that our students’ learning is not affected by the relocation and that students and parents are well-prepared for the relocation.

4. We seek your understanding and support as we relocate to the holding site and please be assured of our continuing commitment to provide a holistic education for your child/ward.

5. Please refer to Annex B for a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). If you have any further queries, please contact the General Office at 6561 9128 during office hours.

Why is there a need to expand GOS?

With the increase in demand for places at GOS, the school hopes to expand its physical capacity to allow more students to access quality teaching and learning and be supported in developing their potential to lead meaningful lives. The expanded GOS will also come with new and improved facilities for our students to engage in learning of academic subjects, vocational training and independent living.

Why is there a need to relocate? I heard some schools carried out their expansion plans without moving to a holding school.

Due to physical site constraints and anticipated extent of works, the school will need to move to a holding site to ensure the safety of students and smooth school operations. We had worked with MOE on the possible holding sites before settling for the current holding site location, based on the availability of usage, proximity and size of site.

What will be the improvements made to the existing school campus?

We are currently working with MOE to finalise the refurbishment plans for the existing campus and will share more details at a later date. The refurbishment works are intended to provide the appropriate learning experiences of our students.

The holding school is located at West Coast Road. Will there be school bus service provided for my child? Can the school help me with the transport costs?

The school is actively working with school bus operators to provide the necessary information so that parents will have sufficient time to make transport arrangements with the school bus operators directly. A registration form for School Bus Service will be given to all parents in Semester 1, 2021. You may register with the company to indicate your interest to engage their service. The school will continue to provide financial support to students and families who qualify for financial assistance. If you require financial assistance, please approach our office to enquire about available support.

Will there be changes to the school hours? Will my child be in the morning or afternoon session?

To better prepare our senior students for vocational training, we are planning to transit to single-session school for students who are 15 years old and above. More details will be provided to parents in Semester 1, 2021.

When will the school shift back to the Jurong West campus?

The current plan is for the school to move back to the Jurong West campus in January 2025. We will monitor the progress of the expansion and refurbishment works and update parents regularly.
